Wedding Photography Style Guide

Posted by Maryanne
You have spent hours deciding how you want your bridesmaids to look, choosing florals, tables linens and designing your wedding cake. Your wedding photography should reflect your personal style just as distinctly. When you are discussing those “must have” shots with your photographer, it is helpful to understand the different styles of wedding photography. Don’t think you are limited to just one style but do decide how you will want your wedding photos to flow and how they will reflect the events of your big day.

Classic Portraits – These are the formal pictures typically taken of the bride and groom, wedding party and family gathered for your wedding. Just because these are are typically composed photos, it does not mean that these are the stiff photos from your parents era – there is plenty of room for creativity. Your photographer should get to know you and all of the important people involved in the wedding and set the stage to reflect their personalities.

Documentary Photos – Candid, spontaneous shots will capture the events leading up to the wedding, during the ceremony and at the reception. If your photographer is adept at journalistic photography, you will not see photos of people staring at the camera. Instead, your candid photos should capture the mood of the moment and tells your story. It is important that your photographer covers a lot of ground so all of the important people in your life are included in your story.

Fine Art Photography – Give your wedding photographer creative license to capture the beautiful decor, food and floral. These shots can add an element of dramatic beauty to your wedding album. Don’t be afraid to mix black and white with vivid color photography or include soft focus or other artistic interpretations.

Photography That Reflects Your Special Style – Whether you are planing a glamorous and sophisticated affair, an event with a flair for the dramatic, a fairy tale romance, a day that shows off your edgy style or a light hearted celebration, you want your wedding photography to reflect your style, show off the beautiful stage you have set and beautifully tells the story that unfolds as you begin the next chapter of your life.

Jennie's Nature-Inspired Maternity Shoot

There's just something about maternity shoots that I especially love. It's such a special time of life for these moms-to-be, and I always feel honored to be able to share in a piece of that season of anticipation. This one with Jennie was just so fun, and she's such a beauty! The day was just perfect outside, and we figured what's more beautiful and natural then having a maternity shoot in the great outdoors amongst the trees and sunlight.

Also...exciting update! I'm happy to report that Princess Jenaveve Grace was delivered on 11:14p on Sunday, Nov 22nd 2015, she is 7 lbs 6 oz of joy. We are SO thrilled for Jennie and Ryan!

Chevy and Kevin's Bright Bohemian Wedding

There's something about a desert wedding that exudes magic and fun. Maybe it's something in the air with the majestic mountains off in the distance. Or in the bright festive colors, and the luxury vacation stereotype that the desert has. Whatever it is, I love getting to work weddings in the desert.

Chevy and Kevin's wedding took place at the Bouganvilla Estate in Indio, CA, and it definitely lived up to it's name! Bouganvilla dripped from the ceremony arch, and bright pink accents filled arrangements from Leaf it to Lexi and were added in decor such as rugs down the ceremony aisle.  Courtney of After the Engagement planned the evening down to perfection, and every detail came together for the dreamiest of evenings. Thanks to the whole team behind this one, and Chevy & Kevin, we wish you all the happiness in the world!
